Periyar Chemicals Limited was established in the year 1969 by the prestigious business house “Aaspinwal & Company”, which was promoted by the erstwhile Travancore Royal Family. The promoters had certain noble objectives behind the establishment of this factory and the main objectives are as follows

  • At that time the highly poisonous gas ‘carbon monoxide’ was being vent out from a nearby fertiliser factory which could have been caused much air pollution problem. They thought that if this waste gas is converted into a useful material they could avoid air pollution as well as convert a waste material to a very useful commodity.

  • In those days about 90% of rubber cultivation was in Kerala and the cultivators required Formic Acid for making rubber sheets from latex. For this purpose Formic Acid was being imported and the local market had not control over the price as well as quality. Hence, the promoters wanted to give the best quality Formic Acid to the Rubber farmers at reasonable price.

Since inception we strictly insisted on best quality formic acid and under no circumstance we had compromised on quality, which of course is the secret behind our success. Ours is the first formic acid plant in South Asia manufacturing Formic Acid as the main product. Apart from formic acid our by-product is Sodium Sulphate (Anhydrous) which, also, excels in quality. We are also marketing a formulation called “Periyarphen”, used for rubber latex coagulation itself but with an added advantage of giving ‘honey colour’ to the sheet as well as to avoid fungal attack, cracks and other deformations of the sheet. We are now on the verge of marketing some accessories used by rubber cultivators viz. Periyarcoat (high quality rubber coat) etc. We are, also, planning to formulate, manufacture and market a very effective fungicide.
